Your iOS device is designed to deliver efficient use out of the box. If you notice slowed performance or battery drain, check out these areas.
Keep your operating system and apps up-to-date for best performance and security. You can find operating system update info under General in Settings. Check for App updates in the App Store under Updates or turn on Automatic Downloads for Apps by going iTunes & App Store under Settings.
If you are trying to preserve battery power until recharging, turn on Airplane Mode in Settings. This will eliminate background apps and data usage, increasing battery life and performance.
If your performance seems to slow, the first thing to check is the storage availability. If it dips below 1GB, you may notice some performance issues. Go to General under Settings and check Storage & iCloud Usage. Open Manage Storage to learn what apps use the most storage and to decide what apps, if any, to delete. Two other quick ways to increase storage space is by eliminating old messages and freeing up photo space.
Eliminate Old Messages – You can free up storage by setting your messages to expire after 30 days or 1 year. Go to Messages under Settings and make adjustments under Keep Messages.
Photo – Reduce your photo storage in several ways. Under settings go to Photo & Camera, turn HDR to Auto. Under Photos & Camera, turn off Keep Normal Photo. Now you will only save the best shot. Turn off iPhoto Cloud Library and use Google+ to store photos online (it’s faster than iPhoto Cloud and it’s free).
REDUCE BACKGROUND ACTIVITY
If you need to conserve battery drain, you can limit background activity by adjusting Share My Location and Background App Refresh. Under Privacy in Settings, you can completely turn off Share My Location or you can turn off this service for certain apps. Go to General under Settings to turn off all or some permissions in Background App Refresh.
Turn off the motion effects in the home screen and in some other parts of the system to speed performance and reduce battery drain. Switch this off by looking under Settings, General, Accessibility, and Reduce Motion.
Setting Up Your Android Device for
Most Efficient Use
You can customize your Android device to most effectively meet your specific needs. Here are a few tips on maximizing efficiency.
Keep your operating system and apps up-to-date for best performance and security. Look under About Phone (or About Device) under Settings to find Software Update (or System Update). To keep apps updated, go to Google Play Store. Tap the menu icon and select My Apps to which apps have available updates. You can also go to Settings in the Google Play Store to choose Auto-update apps.
USE WIDGETS STRATEGICALLY
Widgets are helpful instance access to reminders, weather or other important utilities. Keep in mind that widgets run continuously, using the processor and draining power. Choose a few key widgets that are helpful. Activating too many widgets will slow performance and drain battery.
REDUCE BACKGROUND ACTIVITY
You can increase performance and reduce battery drain by limiting background activity like Live Wallpapers (long press home screen and choose wallpaper settings to adjust), customizing sync settings (look under Settings, Accounts & sync, and Sync settings to adjust), and turn off animations (look under Settings, Developer Options, and turn off Window animation scale and Transition animation scale).
CLEAN UP APPS
Too many unused apps take up storage and processing power. If you never use an app, uninstall it. If you only occasionally you an app, you can disable it by going to Settings and then Apps. Tap app you’d like to disable and select Disable. The file is not removed, but the app won’t drain needed processing power. You can repeat the process to re-enable app. Finally, make sure to keep the apps you do use updated for faster, more effective performance.
MAXIMIZE BATTERY LIFE
To get the most out of your battery life use the smart charger that came with your phone, keep your battery cool, adjust the brightness of your screen to extend battery life, turn off features that drain battery (WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Live Wallpapers).
